Fayetteville Fire Department announces death of retired firefighter who served city for 30 years

Fayetteville, N.C. – The Fayetteville Fire Department in North Carolina is mourning the loss of retired Firefighter Rodney McKay, who served the city for three decades before retiring in 2011.

According to the department, McKay began his service with the City of Fayetteville in 1981 and remained with the fire department until his retirement after 30 years of service.

Fire officials expressed condolences to his family and friends and said the department continues to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this time.

The visitation is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Beginnings Christian Church on South Reilly Road in Fayetteville.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, May 12, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the same location.
